CAS: Regarding Service

Even though the Yearbook Committee is on vacation, we are all trying to go forward with the yearbook and finish putting the portraits of everyone on it. Julie and I decided, since we’re in charge of putting the portraits, that we’d divide which grades’ portraits we were going to do. For example, I was assigned teachers up until 3rd grade and she got the rest. I believe this was extremely effective since both our computers decided to not install a Pictavo program that would’ve helped us with the portraits, and we had to upload the portraits in the system manually. Furthermore, since most of the Yearbook Committee wasn’t in last year’s yearbook, I decided to create a little video for them to serve as a form of guidance when they’re uploading the classes’ pictures. Finally, I have been contacting Ashley and Melanie insofar as Pictavo-related issues, like why are some pictures looking pixelated, or if we should add shapes, etc. As well as, contacting the 12th graders about their senior pages and helping Felipe specifically since he was struggling with the site.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: I realized that one of my strengths is definitely being able to get things done if I want to because the minute Julie and I assigned each other the grades I started working on them immediately and got so far along that I even started working on the pictures of school events. An area for growth I identified is being patient since it was mentally draining uploading each portrait manually; that made me lose my patience more than once.
  • Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively: I realized it’s important to work collaboratively in yearbooks specifically because if you were to make one by yourself it would take a long time. Also, working collaboratively allows you to get new ideas and feedback on what you’re doing which is effective.

IB Learner Profile:

  • Communicators: The communication I’ve established with Julie, Melanie, Ashley, even Miss Kerry has made the creation of the yearbook possible.
  • Reflective & Thinkers: While creating the portraits of the yearbook, it made me reflect on how grateful I am of going to a school that allows their students to express their creativity through a book filled with memories. Also, it made me think about how next year I’ll be making my senior page and saying bye to this family and that thought made me very emotional.
