CAS: Regarding Action

I believe that during this period of social distancing it’s important to keep yourself active since we’re staying at home. I’ve decided to look at many workout routines on Pinterest until I found the one which I liked the most. Ever since the school was canceled, I’ve been staying home a lot and doing these workouts every day. I’ve also been challenging myself by doing 30 seconds of plank every day since my goal is to withstand at least a 5-minute plank. I believe practice makes perfect, and that if I keep practicing I will be able to achieve this goal. I have also modified this workout routine with a few stretches for when I’m on my period and feel like doing nothing. Therefore, I added a few yoga stretches like the baby pose or the cobra stretch that could help me relieve pain from the workout itself but also from period cramps.

Something I’ve noticed from doing this workout routine the past few weeks is that I prefer working out in the morning. I made a poll on my Instagram on whether it was better to workout in the morning or in the afternoon, and the afternoon won. I decided to try both, working out in the morning and then in the afternoon, and I realized that working out in the morning made me more motivated and productive whilst in the afternoon it made me more lazy and tired. In the end, I hope that after this social distancing period is over I am going to be more fit than I was before, and hopefully get abs!

Learning Outcomes:

  • Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences: I’ve shown commitment and perseverance towards this workout routine since I’ve been doing it for the past three weeks and I have no plans of stopping anytime soon. It’s also a great way to keep myself busy and motivated during this quarantine.
  • Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: Exercising is a challenge for many, myself included, therefore, undertaking this challenge will help me develop a new skill in the process which is commitment.

IB Learner Profile:

  • Balanced: I have managed to balance my school work, my social life, and exercise into one during this quarantine period.
  • Caring: Exercising is a form of caring yourself since you don’t want to develop any potential diseases in the future that could have been prevented with proper exercise.
