Over summer break, my family and I wanted to help the community, especially those being most affected by the Coronavirus. This is why we decided to volunteer at CEPIA and help deliver boxes of food and other necessary items like pads, detergent and other basic resources to those most in need. We volunteered for twos days, on the first day we delivered boxes to 10 families in the Villa Real and Huacas area. This was difficult because without addresses it was hard to find the families, but in the end we ended up finding all of them. The second day we just had to drive as many boxes as we could over to a hotel in Langosta where they were distributing them to the families living in that area. Overall, the experience was very impactful because I got to see the living conditions of those who we were delivering the boxes, which made me realize how much a few boxes of food and resources could impact a families life.
Learning outcomes:
Demonstrate engagement with issues of global importance: My family and I did this by helping those who were being most affected by a very large global issue present in the world today, the coronavirus.
Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively: watching the amount of cars and families helping CEPIA with delivering food really showed the empathy seen in our community because it was really impactful seeing the amount of people willing to help those in need when ultimately we are all being affected by the virus, just on different scales.
