What is the meaning of CAS to you? Why is it something that is required by the IB and the MEP? Why did you choose to do your project? What resources are available to help you succeed?
What does CAS mean to me? It does not only stand for Creative, Activity, Service. To me CAS means passion, commitment, demanding, intuitive, opportunities, motivational values that are necessary to use for a social service dedication. This has been an important event in my life because I get to help my community which is something I really love to do. CAS is required by the IB and MEP in order for students to enhance personal and interpersonal skills by developing learning experiences and providing opportunities in self determination and collaboration with others. I choose to do my CAS project in helping people with disabilities, by offering them a better life experience. I determined my project to focus on this issue because it is an issue very popular in my community. I was inspired by my cousin who suffers from down syndrome. She gets help from the closest association where she lives, and from her perspective, she is very grateful and happy. I want to bring the same happiness someone brought to her face, and apply to someone else. I want to change their life and I want them to change mine. Some sources who will help me out in this project are my parents’ support and Cepia’s collaboration. There will be more sources throughout this journey.
How has CAS changed because of COVID? Or has it? Have the community’s needs changed? If so, how? If not, explain.
Many CAS projects have changed because of Covid. My CAS project just started with covid being one of the main obstacles. The main goal of my project is that whether there’s a wide global pandemic or not I still want to help people with disabilities because it’s been an issue that has impacted other people’s lives physically and economically. In my community CEPIA has helped many people with any circumstance. It changed because COVID came out of nowhere and economically it’s been hard for them to receive donations. I hope that I can provide the inspiration and the belief that no matter how hard it is for people to donate because of the economically disadvantaged, the most important thing is the intention. I want them to believe that the initiative and motivation that they have is very powerful.
Evaluate the project that you are doing. Is there a way to start the project over the summer, at least lay the groundwork? If not, why? If so, how and what will you do?
Yes there is a way to start this project over the summer vacation. I will be assisting Cepia everyday to get information about the people who myself and my peer will help and interview to keep moving forward with the main objective. I will have a list of people and I will visit their homes to have an idea of how much money we need to raise and if their situation is in a very difficult condition.
