Spend the time writing about what is happening in the world. How does it affect your life? How does it affect your community? How does it affect your project? How do you adapt your role as a member of the community to help others?
The world is falling in chaos. COVID 19 is rapidly spreading across the world and everything is shutting down, leaving behind lots of fear and confusion. Last week it started to affect my life, PROM had to get postponed, school got canceled, our field trip got canceled and now I’m sitting at home “social distancing” reflecting on the mass effects of this virus. As of yesterday, there is one confirmed case in my community, making it feel so much more real. Our community has now basically shut down because of it. This has “shut down”/affected my projects.
First off because of Corona and PROM had to get postponed until April. Because of this date change, we may not be able to have the event at Pacifico, our venue. Plus the seniors will be even closer to their IB exams so it will limit their participation and the senior student government members’ motivation/time to put on this event. Similarly, now we have limited time to write up the constitution and plan elections.
Secondly, with my One Act project, Corona has eliminated the ability to practice and perform it.
Thirdly because Corona Terraza can not host events out of the skatepark or have meetings in person.
Presented with these difficulties I need to shift my role as a member of the community and as a member of these projects to keep them on their feet and moving forward. Because it is important as a world and as a community that we continue to move forward, from home, because we will “get the world back” eventually and the less chaos we can cause the better.
Generally, I am a person that works well under pressure so in this pressure-filled situation, I need to put my head down and fix the things that I can.
With the student government, I can push the group to figure out a backup plan for PROM, for the constitution writing and elections. Additionally, I can use social media to get people thinking about running for the upcoming student government elections.
For the One-Act, during this time I can create a better plan of action for trimester 3 to keep myself motivated in this project and to keep the other girls motivated.
Lastly in the Terraza project, I can talk to my brother, who designed the snack shack website, to learn how to create a website. With this information, our team could start to move forward on the website as we social distance our self.
In conclusion here is the list of things I will do to help these projects and the community in general:
