Creative Field Trip Journal Entry

Collaboratively:

  • How did I initiate communication?  What methods of communication worked well during my project and what methods didn’t work well?  What did I learn from this?

I initiated communication with my peers by addressing which type of “sticks” we needed, they could be small sticks, medium sticks but big sticks because they wouldn’t fit in the circle we were trying to fill out. Whenever we brainstormed an idea to add into the snake we were creating, Benja was very open to these ideas and he enjoyed adding them to his project. I learned how to work on team work, listen to others ideas and reflect on the art piece we were working on.

  • Who did I help and how?

I helped Benja by collecting sticks, raking the inside of the circle in a spiral shape to add more texture to the artwork and collecting little green seeds to add color to the snake’s teeth pretending it was poison.

  • Who surprised me, inspired me, disappointed me?  How?

Stephanie’s project surprised me because she connected it to a problem that was happening in her community, the woman who was found naked and dead. The fact that she found half of a mannequin body and incorporated and related it to that issue that shocked her entire community, that was very remarkable.

Ashley’s art project inspired me to keep fighting for my women rights. To make my life a better world, that the words that hurt me are not true and that they don’t have to affect the way I see myself. But everything is lost into the sea.

Benja’s art project inspired me to realize that karma can be real. I personally believe in it. But I believe that it was super cool to create a snake out of sticks.

Ethical Implications:

  • How did Benja’s project, creating a Karma snake, get you to think about what is right and what is wrong? How do you know when you are doing something right or wrong if you believe in what you are doing?

Benja’s project helped me understand when things are right, and when things are wrong because depending on the expertise or knowledge that I have in a certain area, I can determine if there is a flaw in a certain situation or if there is something that is right but maybe it is not being handled in the proper way. There are times when I will not be able to determine if something is true or not. It depends a lot on the honesty of the person, but everything always comes out sometime.

  • How do different cultures influence what people believe is right or wrong? How do you live in an area where there are many cultural differences and find ways to do the right thing more often than the wrong thing?

Different cultures influence whether a person believes in something that is right or wrong. Each person decides what he or she wants to believe whether it is a religion, myth or legend. That belief is different from other beliefs, but it is my decision whether I choose to believe it or not. There can be many cultures, we can adapt, our perspectives can change. It is possible to express an opinion, question or to no longer believe. But my belief does not depend on other people, it depends on what I want to believe. Almost all the time we try to do the right thing, sometimes we make mistakes and from those mistakes we learn to continue or not to continue believing what we value so deeply. It may end up being something that is not real or true.
