Update: Dreams and connections
Dreams and connections
We had some great conversations in January!
We (Amy and Cloe) continue to ask questions about the fabric that Gloria creates. It is interesting to hear that answers and see the joy on her face when talking to us. It is fun to see the garments and purses and other items that she creates. It is also interesting to hear about the loom that she works with both her hands and feet. Somehow, she is able to use it and so can her husband, even though he doesn't know how to weave by hand. She says his hands are too big.
She discusses the way that they get the baby alpaca wool, from baby alpacas that have moms that are negligent or from baby alpacas that drown in the rivers when there is a lot of rain. This is why this wool is so difficult to find. It is not wool that you cultivate, it is wool that nature provides. It is the softest and best wool to weave and it is also the hardest to obtain.
We all connected on different levels this time. Amy's Spanish is better so it is easier to understand, but also we are discussing her plans for the future and she is optimistic. Which is exciting to hear even though there are still many barriers for selling her items in a small shop in Cusco.
There are some things that are still unclear. Where is the loom? We haven't seen any pictures yet. It is also interesting that August is the best time for her to sell on the street. We are not sure how often she is selling goods and for how much at the moment. Those are things we would like to hear more about before thinking about a store.
Until next time!
