CAS Journal Entry #22

What is my goal for the trimester and how am I going to accomplish it?

My goal for this second trimester insofar as my CAS Project is that I want to be able to initiate and plan a CAS activity by helping plan the IUD campaign in May of this year which is going to be in Nosara and Santa Cruz. I am planning to accomplish this goal by being in constant communication with my partner Julie and our mentor Geneva to where we’re at and what else should we be thinking about. In addition, I’m going to be reading the emails we’ve been receiving on the Proyecto Vida Mujer email to be updated with everything going on and maybe propose ideas regarding what I’ve read on those emails.

What have I done to move myself toward the goal that I have set?

Something Julie and I both have done to move towards that goal that we’ve set is that we’ve written a grant application to send to the Guanacaste Community Fund (Las Catalinas) to see if they’d be interested in donating to our project. Our grant was excellent according to our CAS mentor, Geneva; it was well written and had a proficient lexicon in order to demonstrate how serious this non-profit project is. Julie and I are very proud of the work we’ve done.

Learning Outcome:

  • Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience: Even though we haven’t completed the entire CAS activity we’re still slowly working our way through initiating and planning this CAS experience. This grant is definitely crucial to see what the outcome of that CAS experience is going to be like.
  • Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively: If I hadn’t worked collaboratively with Julie and Geneva, I don’t think the “excellence” of this grant application would’ve been excellent at all. I’ve developed new ways of communicating with my peers to see where this CAS experience could go.

IB Learner Profile:

  • Communication: In this example, I communicated my concerns with Julie of the grant application where she gladly explained or we both sorted out the parts where we were confused about.
  • Reflective: Making this grant application helped me reflect on the community that we live in and how projects like these are so important because I was looking at statistics from organizations here in Costa Rica and it’s such a big issue. Therefore, these projects are definitely crucial for the wellness of the community.
