This Thursday, after school, we had our first meeting of the new year. Our manager Ashley was out of town for most of the break so this meeting was us getting back on track and talking about how we plan to move forward.
Talking at this meeting it became even more apparent how badly we need to change. We aren’t coming up with new ideas. It’s the same events over and over again and we aren’t going anywhere. We need to change that.
At this meeting, Cata and I introduced our idea to move out of the space. We told Ashley and Emma, the other team member who was at the meeting, that we don’t believe it makes sense for us to rent the space anymore. And surprisingly they were both on board. A while ago there was talk about building a new space behind Sharky’s but the owner of Sharky’s seems to have changed his mind about wanting to build a space. Back then Ashley was super excited about this idea and since our idea has a similar goal, not playing 2,000 in rent, she was on board. This was exciting because we were worried about how Ashley would perceive it, but she loved it.
Now, moving forward is going to require some reconstructing and restructuring of the project which I think is going to be hard to do as a team. Like how do we restructure Ashley’s hours? Are we still just for teenagers or younger kids too? Is Ricky still going to pay Ashley? How long do we have to wait till we can move out? What do we do with all the stuff? I suggested that we sell it to student government but Ashley and Emma seemed to want to keep it somewhere just in case the space behind Sharky’s gets built.
These are just some of the many questions we need to answer, but at least we are moving somewhere and moving somewhere as a team. They are on board right now so as a group we can move forward, it’s not just going to be me and Cata.
I definitely thought coming into this project that it was going to be different, easier. But it’s such a mess on the inside and I want to help fix it and leave it a better project but how? And at this point is the project worthwhile? And if it’s not how do we change it so it can become worthwhile again?
On another note at this meeting we planned events for the upcoming month and discussed working more closely with the organization Costa Rica Makes Me Happy to help build houses.
