1. What is the meaning of CAS to you? Why is it something that is required by the IB and the MEP? Why did you choose to do your project? What resources are available to help you succeed?

For me CAS is finding ways to help or give back to the community in a creative and innovative way. I think that it is something required by IB and MEP because they want to be able to see that you can give back to the community and be a helpful member of society. I chose my project because its based on something that I love very much and I think it could be a good way to bring people together. The resources that are available to help me succeed are my connection/access with La Paz and the students and my connection at Lola’s in front of the beach.

2. How has CAS changed because of COVID? Or has it? Have the communities needs changed? If so, how? If not, explain.

CAS projects have had to learn to adapt to the changing environment and modify the CAS projects to follow current health regulations.  I think COVID has made it much harder for CAS projects to work closely with communities because of restrictions and health safety. I think that COVID also changed the needs of the communities because now people are more in need of basic necessities because there is more unemployment due to businesses closing or downsizing, so in general they are in need of basic support.

3. Evaluate the project that you are doing. Talk about it with your group. Have your group give you feedback and insight. Does it still make sense now? If not, why? Is so, how?

For my project I want to do a surfing club but now with all the safety regulations and restrictions that I don’t think it could operate under. The regulations do not allow for sporting events to happen on the beach as well as large gatherings or events. This means that I need to fine tune my project and simplify it by focusing on smaller target market.

4. What are the first steps? How are you going to show progress by next week? How will you going to manage my time?

My first steps are going to be finding ways to change my project in order for it to operate during COVID times. I also want to send out surveys in order to see what outside people might think about my project.

5. How can you make the time that you are doing CAS, time that is not in front of a screen? Is that possible with your project? Is there something that you can create without much screen time? And how do we document it?

I can try to use notebooks and my project involves surfing and the beach which means that I will be outside a lot, working on the beach and not using my computer all the time.
