Julie Creativity Journal Entry – December 25th 2019

Over break I decided to be creative by enhancing my baking skills. For Christmas my mom decided to make a fancy dinner with turkey, mashed potatoes, etc. so I decided to make the desserts. I ended up choosing to make an apple pie and Christmas cookies, since both are what is typically eaten on Christmas. This was a challenge for me since I had never made a pie before so I was trying something new. The pie ended up turning out just as I had hoped and tasted really good. For the Christmas cookies, I didn't add enough milk to the frosting until I had iced about half of them, so those ones didn't look as nice. Both of the desserts I made were completely from scratch which also challenged my skills as usually I use the pre-made bags for cookies. Learning outcomes: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: For the cookies, I was able to develop a new area for growth of being more patient since I had rushed through making the icing which made half the cookies not not as nice as the rest. I also was able to identify a strength, being my baking skills, because it was my first time ever making a pie and it actually turned out really well. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: Since it was my first time making a pie, it was a bit challenging especially since I decided to do a laced top instead of just a normal top. This lead me to better my baking and patience skills as this type of top took a lot more time then the regular one would have, and since it was more challenging, I was able to enhance my baking skills as well.
