Update: Julie IUD Campaign - October 19th 2019
Julie IUD Campaign – October 19th 2019
On October 19th, Jimena and I volunteered at our first IUD campaign for our project. We spent all day helping almost 100 women. For the first half of the day, I worked the sign-in station where the women came and filled in their names and I gave them a survey to fill out before they went in. For the second half of the day, I helped at the sign-out station where the women had to fill out an exit survey. This part was challenging because the exit survey was on the computer and some of the women didn’t know how to use a computer or even read. Through this experience I was able to reflect on my life and how lucky I am to be able to get a good education.
This day was super powerful for me because I got to help so many women that were able to take advantage of this opportunity.
Learning outcomes:
Demonstrate engagement with issues of global importance: I showed engagement with an issue of global importance because almost have of pregnancies are unplanned and by helping the women that can afford those unplanned pregnancies really can make a difference in their lives.
Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions – After volunteering at this event I was able to reflect on my actions and think about how great it made me feel to help these women and make a change in their lives.
IB learner profiles:
Caring: The whole day every volunteer was so caring towards the women and we made them feel more comfortable, because for some of the women it can be scary showing up for these types of events.
Reflective: This experience made me reflect on my life and how grateful I am to be able to receive such a good education and lifestyle.
