Julie Service Journal Entry – April 13th 2020

Over this break, I provided a service to the community by making progress on the yearbook. The yearbook is something that everyone at our school is able to look back at and remember all of our memories and friends during highschool. It is very important to cherish and remember your childhood as we all only live once, which is what Jimena and I are doing by making the yearbook. Over break we split the grades up to complete the portrait pages. This was challenging because we had to upload every image one by one and write in everyone's full name. After completing this, we then put each student in their according grades and made templates to put on the actual pages. We then completed the pages by adding the grade number and putting a fun background. In addition, at the beginning of break I made accounts for all the 12th graders so they are able to access the yearbook and make their senior pages. Jimena and I then drafted an email, letting them know and telling them to have it done by the end of break. Our next step in this project is to get all of our members to add the fun pictures for each grade and to start marketing the yearbook for donations and for people to buy ads, which we plan to do once we start online school again. Learning outcomes: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: It was very challenging uploading the photos because at first we were unable to upload them so we had to come up with a new solution, which ended up being uploading the photos one by one which took a lot of time. We also have been experiencing challenges because of the CoronaVirus, we are unable to market the way we wanted to, so we are brainstorming new ways to attract an audience digitally.
