From the end of September to the end of October, I joined a volunteer group ran by my peers, Catalina and Stacy, called Students Sponsoring Students (SSS). Throughout the month we planned an event called Dia de las Mascaradas or also known as Halloween. We met every Tuesday and Thursday and my job throughout the project was to help plan the decorations.
For the decorations, we made a WhatsApp group with a bunch of moms willing to help and gave them our ideas for decorations so they could help us make them. Towards the end of the project, I also helped make some decorations.
Learning Outcomes:
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: I did this because it was challenging to make sure we have enough decorations and that there were enough decorations celebrating the Dia de las Mascaradas to make sure we were culturally inclusive.
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences – I showed commitment to this project because I never missed a meeting and I helped come up with many ideas for the event.
IB Profiles:
Open-minded:I was open-minded when we had to listen and acknowledge everyone’s ideas.
Communicator: I was a communicator when I gave my ideas.
