July 29th, 2020 – Jimena CAS Journal Entry

CAS Journal Entry #46
Yearbook 2019-2020
Every year in La Paz, students from 11th grade take the reins of the yearbook project until the end of the school year. This project of creating, ordering, and supplying yearbooks to families of this zone can be a very tedious process as well as time-consuming and stressful.

Nonetheless, with perseverance and patience, Julie and I were able to offer the best yearbook possible to our La Paz community. The process of finishing the yearbook was tiresome in the sense that we had to logistically think about the circumstance we were in (Coronavirus and thus no school).

In the end, we were able to create a Google Form where parents signed up for the yearbook and then pick it up on their own in the front office with Gaby during the last week of school. This project also taught me how to communicate with older business people and important business vocabulary (e.g. cotizaciones, recibos, etc) whilst speaking with them, as well as, being able to make a deal between both parties which is exactly what I was able to do.

At last, the yearbook was a success and we hope that for the next school year more kids will be able to pick up their yearbook if they were unable to this year.

Learning Outcomes:
• Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively: Without the help of the Yearbook Committee, Miss Kerry, La Nacion, and Julie, the yearbook this year would’ve ceased to exist thus showing how important it is to work together as a whole.
• Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences: The yearbook was a year-long process since we had to recollect photos and information since the first trimester all the way to third, but we persisted and completed everything.

IB Learner Profile:
• Balanced: We remained balanced due to the fact that even though we had school throughout the year we still tried to have yearbook meetings, and recollect photos, etc.
• Communicators: I had to remain communicative with the school administration, La Nacion, Julie, and at the beginning with Ashley and Melanie.
