CAS Journal Entry #44

Human Resources Reflection

This week was the most exciting week out of all the weeks I’ve had doing this HR Project. This is because I ended up teaching the Big 5 to the 8th graders and next week I’ll proceed to teach them specifically about Audience/Purpose in a variety of texts like a Coca Cola commercial. This week was very fun because I was able to create a Google Slides with all the Big 5 information they need in order to be prepared for analyzing it. I believe that this Google Slide will be beneficial to them when they get to Chirripó since it’s easily laid out and contains a good explanation of what each Big 5 intends to do as well as mini examples of what they should look for when they’re analyzing texts.

Overall, the lesson was short and concise. I taught for 15-20 min about Big 5 by presenting the Google Slide I had made. The students were respectful in the sense where they weren’t distracted by anything and were listening attentively to everything I was saying. Additionally, although they didn’t have any questions about the Big 5, Miss Claudia told me that they were stressed and concerned over the amount of work they would be receiving once they reach Chirripó since they saw that I am teaching a lesson, and had to create a lesson plan, a Google Slide, and more. They were intimidated over the amount of the work they’ll receive, amongst those the Big 5 included. I will try to not stress them about this type of work they’ll do since one can learn how to enjoy analyzing texts with the Big 5. Teaching to the 8th graders has allowed me to grow and develop as not only a learner but as a person too. I’ve realized to have compassion and admire my teachers who spend a lot of their time developing lesson plans and pouring their hearts out in order for us to learn. It has also developed me as a learner since I’m learning many things about myself I didn’t know before. Amongst those is my patience capabilities, I always believed that I had no patience whatsoever but in reality, I’ve learned that I do and that all along I haven’t been giving myself the credit I deserve.
