Human Resources Reflection

For starters, this was the week where I was preparing myself to teach the 8th graders a class. I have decided to focus on teaching them a class on audience/purpose from the Big 5 which is a fundamental aspect of the English and Spanish IB curriculum since we use it in every text we analyze. I have decided to have them analyze a short Coca Cola commercial which is not in English nor Spanish that way they’ll be able to interpret the message in different ways.

The goal of this lesson is to have them understand in a more profound manner what will be expected of them when they reach Chirripó as well as prepare them for their time in high school where they’re going to have to analyze many texts for preparation for the IB. I’m going to be working with the advanced Spanish-speaking 8th graders in order to improve their analytical skills regarding texts of different types. This week I observed a class where I presented myself to the grade and explained to them what I’m doing for this project. Overall the meeting was relatively successful, I was able to understand the class a little more as well as the dynamics of how they work, listen, behave, etc.

This week has allowed me to grow and develop as a learner and a professional since I was able to communicate effectively with not only Miss Claudia but also with the students and explained to them my purpose with this project as well as what is expected on their behalf. I believe communication is crucial during these times since we’re not able to see each other in person so we have to stay in touch in different ways and be responsible and hold ourselves accountable for our work and actions.
