May 15th 2020 – Julie Reflection Journal Entry Week #3

This week I focused on trying trying to pay attention and work without getting distracted for longer periods of time. I started with only 5 minutes and made it up to 25. This was fairly easy, but with being in my house all day I get bored pretty fast and get distracted really easily. However, this exercise really helped me focus on just getting my work done and trying not to take unnecessary breaks.

This week I also read and learned more about summative and formative appraisals. After reading the articles I think I prefer formative appraisals because I would rather know what I am doing wrong or could be doing better before it has already been a whole trimester. With feedback I usually don’t take it that bad because I like to hear what I could be doing better to do my best work rather than just getting offended or letting it cloud my thoughts easily.

This week I also spoke to Ms. Cat on our next steps and I am going to start helping her plan and make videos next week. She said she is going to be sending me a few videos that she wants me to edit and to maybe come up with a new creative way to teach the 9th graders through video or any other way, so I am going to start thinking about that. Overall, this week I mostly worked on myself and finding the best way for me to learn and improve, but also figured out what I am going to be doing for the next few weeks.

Learning outcomes:

Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: This week while trying to decide which exercise I should focus on for my focus activity, I had to think about some of my areas for growth and the biggest one I could think of is me getting distracted and not being able to work  for long periods of time.
