CAS Journal Entry #40
Focus Training Reflection Week 2
This has been my second week focusing on the things that distract me when I’m doing academic things or even chores. I have been more thoughtful and reflective of the ways in which I use my time especially now that I have “free time” because of quarantine. As a teenager, I realized that I can distract myself easily by many different factors surrounding me like my phone, computer, social media, the outside, and more. This is why activities like these are helping me become a more reflective and balanced person since now I’m aware and know when to use my time for academic things or chores, as well as, social media. In addition, I believe it’s crucial for teenagers to be aware of the amount of time they spend on their phones since that time can be used for other valuable worthwhile things like learning, studying, improving performance, etc.
Exercise #4: Distraction Chart
Day | Time | What distracted me? | Outcome |
Monday | 4:00pm | Appendicitis symptoms because my stomach was hurting and I didn’t know if it was my appendix dying. | I got distracted by these symptoms considering that I was scared for my life, even though I needed to study for Bachi. |
Tuesday | 10:00pm | Stacy | Stacy called me to talk about something and I was doing my TOK homework so she ended up distracting me for about an hour. |
Wednesday | 7:00pm | I was almost distracted by Instagram. | I was doing my Bio homework and I was getting these notifications from Instagram, but instead of distracting myself I patiently waited for when I was done. |
Thursday | 3:30pm | College and careers | I was supposed to be doing my math classwork but I finished beforehand and started looking at colleges and looked into real estate management to see what’s up with the career. I also was curious and checked out the architecture program at the University of Florida. I don’t know why. |
Friday | 9:30pm | Full House | I was about to start watching Full House but decided on working on something more productive instead so I started investigating for my EE. |
Saturday | 8:00pm | How to eat an Oreo | I was supposed to do my math homework but instead I was on WikiHow trying to see the different ways to eat an Oreo. |
Sunday | 10:00pm | Murphy’s Law | I was supposed to be cleaning my room since it’s very messy at the moment but instead I wanted to investigate what Murphy’s Law was. I found out it means that “anything that can go wrong will go wrong”. It’s kind of a pessimistic but realistic “law”. |
Monday | 10:40pm | I was about to go on Instagram because I thought I had no homework but then I remembered that I had to turn in my business one. |
