Throughout this week, I have learned a lot about human resources, and even just applying for a job. So far this project has taught me how to research for a job and even what a cover letter is. Before this project I would not have known that a cover letter is even something you have to have to apply for a job. Because of this writing the cover letter was challenging because I didn’t really know what I was supposed to write, but the article that was attached to the assignment really helped me out. This project also taught me what human resources even is through the video Ms. Amy made, and the mind map we created with the steps of how to recruit someone, which is one of the jobs of someone working in human resources. I also learned how to do an interview and what questions I will most likely have to answer when in one.
Not only did I learn how to apply for a job and all the steps, but I also learned what someone is human resources is looking for and how to know if they need to recruit after creating a workforce plan. Although this project so far has taught me so much, it is also a bit overwhelming since we are not at school and have to figure out most of this on our own even though Ms. Amy is doing so much to make online learning more effective. I think this project just makes us overwhelmed because at the beginning of the week when we see everything we have to do, it seems like a lot, but if you actually work throughout each business class, it’s not hard to get done. I also really like this project because I think it is helping us learn about human resources in the best way because we are actually doing it and getting involved, not just taking notes about it.
Some things I am scared about for this project are not being able to complete something on time or just feeling really overwhelmed with work. So far, I have been able to manage my time well and not stress out too much about the project, but I don’t know if I will be able to keep this up for the future. Something I am excited about is actually starting to teach with Ms. Cat and help her out with her classes. I am excited for this because not only am I learning about human resources, but also how to get a job and work for someone which is helpful since many of us can not work yet in Costa Rica.
Overall I think this project is a very effective way to learn about human resources while helping out someone in the community at the same time. I am excited to see what else we have to do and to work with Ms. Cat.
Learning outcomes:
Identify my strengths and areas for growth: I had to identify my strengths for my cover letter and interview video which helped me remember what I’m good at.
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: This project so far has been challenging for me because I didn’t know anything about human resources or even really applying for a real job, so I got to learn a lot more about that.
