Mentor Journal Entry

What is your objective of the project? Do you need to explain what a CAS project is? How are you going to communicate with them? Email, interview, whats app? What are you planning on asking them? What are the expectations?

Overall goal for CAS project:

To help individuals and families in poverty by providing donations, food and their needs.

Objectives (for mentor):

  • Our objective is to have our mentor support us in every decision whether it’s good or bad.
  • We need a mentor that directs us to work on achieving success on this project.
  • We want our mentor to be part of the whole process, he/she will push us and motivate us to remain confident in accomplishing our goals in the next 18 months of CAS.

What is a CAS project?

CAS stands for community, activity and service. IB students are encouraged to take CAS because it’s one of the CORE units that will make a student successful. Students are determined to create a project that involves within the community and as well involves social service. It’s helpful for college applications because universities are interested in any involvement the student had with the community.

How will you communicate with them?

My peer and I will communicate with our mentor through whatsapp and interview. We have a very close relationship with our mentor  and the best part is that through her experience with CAS she has done a very similar project. This means that our mentor has a clear understanding on how CAS works and the overall goal for the project.

Interview questions:

  • How long it took you to raise funds. What kind of fundraisers did you do?
  • How many families did you manage to help? How much money did you raise depending on the number of families in need?
  • How many hours did you dedicate to the project?
  • Did you have any collaboration from a social organization?
  • Did you have a mentor or someone who believed in your project and ideas?

Expectations:

  • Encouragement: We need someone who will be dedicated to be part of our project. Someone who will be tracking our progress.
  • Recognition: To identify our skills and abilities.
  • Motivation: To motivate us and believe in us.
  • Collaboration: To give us advice and new ideas to help us succeed.
  • Communication: To communicate with us due to an unforeseen circumstance that’s related to our CAS project.
