Night of the Art Journal Entry

What is your CAS project and how is it helping the community?

Even though we changed our mind about our CAS project, we decided to focus on providing food baskets for people in need. My personal inspiration was that when the pandemic started, I had the wonderful opportunity to receive help because covid had affected many families financially. One of those was me and Geyra. The importance of this act to me is very meaningful as I have experienced the gratitude and support from the surrounding community. Our new innovative idea will help the community because we will be providing help to people who are in need of food. We are also thinking of helping the communities to pick up trash on the beaches, this helps the environment because lately we have observed a lot of plastic on the beaches and in the towns. I take it very seriously in helping the environment. In towns like Brasilito, Potrero, and Huacas there is a lot of pollution in the rivers. The great thing about working with a partner is because she listens to my ideas and makes sure how we can improve those skills. I do the same thing with her, I listen, she tells me her perspective and them we communicate without mentor to share our ideas and she gives us feedback.

What are some interesting aspects of your project that you think people should know about?

Some interesting things people should know about our project is our process. We would start off by briefly explaining how our first idea didn’t work, and explain how our second idea with the church brought our expectations down, forcing us to take on new challenges and skills. We would explain our collaboration with futuro brillante that in the future we will take into consideration as a special option with children. We will explain our personal connection with the food baskets and how the support from the school/teachers/friends was meaningful in our lives. We would let people know which community seems like it needs more help, we would have to start interviewing some families to see if they are completely in need. We will let them know who our mentor is and how she has kept us motivated even though the circumstances turned out sort of complicated in the beginning. Furthermore, we will give details of our expectations and how they can help us.

What do you need from the community?

From the community we will need food/money donations, and beach cleanup support. We will be creating multiple fundraisers in school to recollect money for the food baskets.
