CAS Journal Entry #56
Throughout my CAS experience, the main challenge that I had to undertake was the yearbook. The yearbook was a new challenge to take since Julie and I have never done anything like that before. Sure, we’ve participated and helped plan school events but we had never done something that would leave a legacy in the school as the yearbook would. Since we had no prior experience, we required so much help from Miss Kerry, Ashley, and Melanie who guided us in the process.
At the beginning, I was feeling a little intimidated and pessimistic, thinking I wasn’t capable of pulling this off with Julie and that the yearbook was going to end up being so bad. However, as time went by I realized Julie and I made a great team and that the yearbook wasn’t such a difficult nor boring project after all. After completing the yearbook, my perception on this project changed drastically. I noticed that anyone was able to take risks and take over the yearbook, even people with no prior experience. I know there’s people at school who think like I used to, that they’re incapable of making something so grand in the school, by themselves. Therefore, I want to inspire students. I want to motivate them into taking over these projects and remind them that the final product is just the little legacy that you leave to the school, and that it is possible to accomplish big things if you have your mind set to it.
When finishing the yearbook, I surprised myself. I couldn’t believe that this final product, when I physically touched the yearbook at La Nacion, was something Julie, Yearbook Committee, and me had done out of pure hard work and dedication. It felt good, knowing that all the logistics, finance, and creativity had run smoothly and that all left now was to give them away. Finishing the yearbook is something that up to this day I am very proud of. When Julie and I were given the opportunity to retake the yearbook we were a little skeptical at first because we were seniors, we had no time, we were going to be busy all the time; however, we noticed that with good time management we’re able to be in charge of the yearbook at least a little bit this year.
I feel like undertaking this challenge of developing a yearbook for the school has made me more confident. I am now willing to take new challenges, and take risks, and get out of my comfort zone. After this challenge, I believe I can call myself a more confident, and self-assured person, as well as determined and motivated. I hope these adjectives come into great use in the future where I’m able to implement them with ease in both the workplace and my life.
