November 14th 2020 – Julie CAS Journal Entry

One of the biggest challenges of my CAS experience was taking over the yearbook project. Jimena and I kind of decided to do this pretty quickly and I wasn’t even sure what I was getting myself into as I had never been a part of the yearbook club before.

What were my perceptions going into the task?

Going into the task I had no idea what to expect, but at first, I didn’t really think t was going to be that much work, more just fun picking the title and adding funny or cool photos. Going into it I just thought it was going to be a small, fun project where Jimena, myself, and our team would just evenly distribute the tasks.

Did my perceptions change after completing the task?

My first perceptions of the task were very wrong as it was way more work than I had anticipated and I had not even thought of fundraising or distributing when I first started the project. I also thought the work would be more evenly distributed between all of our members. However, that was not the case at all, and Jimena and I had much more work to do. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the project and liked creating the fun pages and picking a cover.

Did I surprise myself, inspire myself, or disappoint myself and how did that feel?

Throughout this project, I definitely did surprise myself as when Jimena and I completed it I was so proud of the work we had accomplished and how well the book turned out. I surprised myself because I thought that due to the coronavirus we were going to have way more problems and not raise enough money. However, in the end, we did raise enough money, even enough to pay for all the scholarship kids to get a free yearbook.

How will these skills help me in future projects?

The skills I learned throughout this project will be able to help me in the future as I will be more organized, time-efficient and I can successfully raise money and come up with ideas to raise money. Also over the course of this project, I learned how to edit books and images on the computer which could definitely help me in the future as technology is slowly becoming more and more relevant in jobs.
