November 22nd, 2020 – Julie CAS Journal Entry

Throughout my whole CAS experience, the learning outcome I feel like I have spoken about the least is, “recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions”. I feel like this is the one I have talked about the least because almost all of the other ones connect to both my CAS projects; however, this one only mainly connects to Proyecto Vida Mujer.

Over the course of our Projecto Vida Mujer project, ethics have definitely been involved since the project is controversial. The ethics of what people believe about our project and what it is doing for the community. For example, some people may look at the project as unethical because they believe it is just promoting sex in the area; however, this is inevitable so in my opinion, it is safer and more ethical for women who can’t afford it, to have the option to a form of birth control.

At Proyecto Vida Mujer we also try to make the project as ethical as possible by making sure all the women are educated on the topic before they are allowed to get the IUD. Since most of the women we are helping tend to be uneducated due to their resources, it is very important to us to make sure they know what they are signing up for. This way we are making sure we are considering the ethics of this project and making the women as comfortable and knowledgable as they can be.

Overall, we recongize the ethics of this project and try to make sure we are being as ethical as possible by educating to women and making sure the project falls under their morals.
