MUN

During Global Politics, we were told we were going on a field trip to United World College Costa Rica to participate in a Model United Nations (MUN). All of the class was so excited about such an amazing opportunity to represent and evaluate issues that happen today around the world. On October 10th, 2019 we embarked on an adventure where we headed off to UWCCR at 3 am to be there in time for the MUN. I was representing Poland in the NATO committee where the issue debated on was the action plan for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

Throughout the two days we were there I learned so many things I didn’t know before, in addition, I realized my strengths and weaknesses insofar as this subject. Overall, the experience was great, not only did I learn many different motions, points, and diplomatic vocabulary, as well as, how to write many different position and resolution papers.

This trip taught me many things for example patience, perseverance, communication skills, and many more and how I had to implement many different problem-solving skills in order to solve the issue and approach a consensus among states in my committee with different ideals.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: While participating in this debate I identified a few of my strengths and areas I need to develop for growth. For example, some strengths I identified was that I was good at communicating with other member states of NATO as well as develop connections with them. An area I need to develop for growth is confidence and security because sometimes the lack of this, at least in this debate, limited my participation because I was unsure and scared of saying something wrong, so I need to develop this part.
  • Demonstrate engagement with issues of global importance: The discussion of topics happening in the world today was crucial for the development of a resolution in our committee.

IB Learner Profile:

  • Communicator: I established communication among other states present in the committee.
  • Thinkers: We had to think of coming up with a resolution in which all the states’ interests were taken into consideration.
