CAS Journal Entry #51

The projects I’m currently focusing on are yearbook and Proyecto Vida Mujer. Although yearbook is important, PVM is the one Julie and I have been working the most at the moment since there’s an upcoming clinic to plan. I have been constantly helping Geneva translating things from English to Spanish in order to market the IUDs and the clinic towards women of the zone. Since there’s an upcoming clinic, there are many logistics to take into consideration especially how to market the campaign and help as many women as possible but still following sanitary guidelines.

So far, during this time it hasn’t been very difficult. Since all the translations I had to do were over email, or WhatsApp, or online, I have had no difficulty doing it since I have experience doing so. Nonetheless, for the actual clinic, Julie and I won’t be able to personally volunteer and participate due to social distancing rules, and sanitary guidelines as a result of the pandemic.

Insofar as yearbook, doing school online has made it difficult to attract people to join. This is due because maybe people are tired of looking at the screen all day and don’t want to follow a project that does exactly that. Also, marketing the yearbook on Morning Meeting is pretty difficult since it’s over a screen and people may or may not be paying attention, etc. Nonetheless, it has brought many opportunities since it makes yearbook time more flexible. Last year for example, since we were home a lot and had multiple breaks Julie and I were able to adjust our work and time in order to work on the yearbook effectively. Therefore, online classes or even staying home hasn’t been that bad for yearbook working.

Some threats present with both PVM and the yearbook is that at least with PVM is that we aren’t able to physically participate in the clinic. However, since we can’t be present for the clinic itself we can stay communicated with the program and help everyone from afar logistically. As for the yearbook, inspiring people to join has been difficult since people are lacking the motivation to participate in things like these. Nonetheless, we remain positive that even with a small team during this time we can actually make it happen.
