Stacy – Challenges and new skills (journal entry)

Getting into the future? Challenges were undertaken and new skills were learned. On November 3rd, 2020, for the first time I was doing an internship at a restaurant. I´m not going to lie, before I took on the new challenge I was not nervous at all. I didn't think about it as much. But, the nerves started once I got to the place. I didn't know what to say or do. I was waiting on the employees to tell me what I could help with. Before going into the task I had no perceptions. Therefore, they changed after completing the task. I realized that every job holds them accountable. Much of the responsibility was the main theme, and of course, it did not surprise me but I could see it in a futuristic way. At the end of the day, I stayed to see how the employees closed. In general, I surprised myself because that was content I knew from Ms. Amy´s class. At that moment, I realized I was growing up and my high school life was coming to an end. It felt sad realizing it. On the other hand, the value that this activity had for me was that I gained skills such as working in a team, communicating with clients and stakeholders, and time management. Because the days carrying out this activity made me do homework in the afternoons or I´d be too tired at night. And clearly the experience of this activity was very worthwhile for my mother. Since she observed how I was getting involved in the real world. These skills will help me in the future since I acquired a sense of what real life is about.
