Stacy – Human Resources Project Week 3

Appraisals have the power to motivate employees because they provide a number of benefits. They demonstrate the need for improvement.Employees need to understand the work or else they wouldn’t be motivated to make improvements. When comparing formative vs. summative feedback: it depends on the circumstances. A person that is very good at self management will succeed with summative appraisals. Students are demonstrating their efforts at school. It will also let the teacher understand and evaluate the student’s learning. However, formative appraisals can be easy for a person that is looking forward to improving that skill. With formative assessments, students can improve their learning. In a like manner, it will help students identify their strengths and weaknesses. And target areas that need work. Nonetheless, I like summative and 360-degree feedback. Summative appraisals lets students hold them accountable at the end of the project. Putting in practice self management/discipline. However, I also like 360-degree appraisal. Lets the student go on his own collecting evidence from peers, teachers or students.

I think it is hard to give people honest feedback. This will depend on the way it’s delivered. Things will be easier if both are friends or have a relationship teacher-student. From my perspective, in order to speak in a correct manner, people need to soften their voice and just say it. Adding on, Ms. Amy always has constructive and positive feedback. She delivers her feedback in the correct manner and keeps yourself motivated. Ms. Amy is always so excited about her student projects. I can agree that she’s the only teacher who really puts effort into her classes. Not to mention, I do appreciate all kinds of feedback. Positive feedback will motivate you more in the job. Negative feedback is going to make a person think about their errors and how they can improve it. When I´m receiving feedback, my self talk doesn’t get in the way of what I’m hearing. I´m always looking forward to what peers, teachers, parents have to say.

In my opinion, I surely think it’s more important to have a relationship with the person you are giving feedback to. It will 100% strengthen the message since it’s a person you know already. And they will always want the best for you in order to progress. On the other hand, Herzberg’s motivating factors are preliminary job elements that lead to satisfaction. They can be recognition, achievement, advancement, the work itself, and growth. And hygiene factors are elements of the work environment. Based on these factors, the formal assessment of an employee’s performance will be satisfied in their workplace. The factors will let them accomplish and complete the tasks. This specifically connects to my life when during biology, the majority of the time I don’t understand. If I can’t understand the subject, then I´m not satisfied or motivated to learn new content. I totally agree with Herzberg’s theory of motivation.
