Stacy – Human Resources Project Week 7

Jimena tends to understand english however, her reading comprehension is not quite improved. She understands the majority of the chapter, therefore we are still working on cognitive training in order to improve mental skill performance. I feel each time we have a class together, I´m connecting more with her. It´s a special bond between me and her that no one can understand.

During classes, I´m practicing formative appraisals to make sure she is engaged and processing information. And informing her of the progress or success she´s overcoming. Improvements observed during these couple weeks consist of being out of her comfort zone: she´s more excited about work and isn´t shy reading out loud to me. Also, comprehension of unknown words. New tactics I’m using are asking questions and making her read summaries in english in order to improve mental skills. As well, with developing and explaining new vocabulary. And making an enrichment job by giving her challenging tasks to give her a sense of achievement, for example her work class that needs to be done. One strategic point to motivate her I use is making her feel lucky and grateful for the humongous opportunity she had attending La Paz. I also talk about IB as a motivating point and how she needs to strive towards her goals.

During this process, I’ve noticed that things take time in order to effectively succeed. It has also given me a sense of what I want to study in college. I’m growing by noticing changes in myself. And I´m adapting to my role by being a leader to my community. Through the process, I´ve also noticed Jimena needs a recommendation of Pink’s theory of motivation. Since she feels dead with online classes and needs to start looking for a hobby or something of her interest in order for her motivation to rise. Every sesion I ask her how her day went and how she’s feeling.
