The South African Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has just announced his intention to evaluate the subsurface geology of the Karoo to determine if it holds commercially viable oil and gas reserves. If seismic investigations are suggestive, drilling and even fracking for oil would become a reality in this pristine landscape.
I/Ujubee has a dream of creating a Wild Bee Reserve in the Karoo, near my friend Franci’s farm, Bloukrans Klein Bewarea. Surrounding Franci’s farm are many farms which could potentially be acquired (if the come up for sale) and we could establish a suitable wildlife and land protection plan with the help of my brother, Cormac. He’s a well recognized Environmental Lawyer who can assist us in structuring the purchase to protect the land from being impacted by the Minister on Minerals plan. The owners of the other farms in the region are all hunters so creating a protected Nature Reserve will provide a safe region for not just for wild bees, but for all the indigenous wildlife.
