This "break" away from "normal life" has allowed me to come back to my creative roots.
For this year I made a list of screenplay competitions that I want/wanted to enter. At the beginning of the break, there was a deadline coming up that I wasn't ready for. I had got wrapped up in the craziness of "normal life" and pushed it to the back burner. Honestly, I wasn't planning on finishing my script to turn it in. However, COVID 19 happened and all of the sudden I had a ton of time.
So I opened my script, wrote, edited and submitted a ten-page script to Princeton University's Ten Minute Play Contest.
There were a couple of challenges I faced in this process. First off it was hard to get started. Yes, I had time. But I had already given up on the idea so it took an extra push to jump back in. Secondly, I didn't leave myself much time. The deadline was in a week and a half and I had a lot of writing/editing to do, so I had to push and persevere to finish it. But from this, I learned/remember that I love to write and that I need to work on making time for righting in "normal life". This experience has highlighted that weakness of mine.
However, a strength this experience highlight was that once I get into a creative project, I'm glued.
I was happy with my finished project and am now motivated to keep writing. On to the next one.
Thank you for reading,
Grace
