Winter Break Entry #2

CAS: Regarding Creativity

Even though I wouldn’t consider myself a very artistic person, for my creative journal entry for CAS I decided to create a calendar to honor this new year and this new decade. I decided to incorporate all national and international holidays into the calendar and decorate each month in accordance with the most famous holiday found in it. For example, in January I decorated it in a celebration theme, February in a Valentine’s Day theme, and in March I thought of how we go to spring break so I decorated it in a beach theme, and for August (since it’s my birth month) I decorated it in things I like (like food, the beach, dogs, etc).

In addition, I decided to include the birthdays of the people I know so I could keep better track of them and decorated the day of their birthday in a colour I think it represents them. Furthermore, I decided to incorporate a few of my academic due dates into the calendar, for example, coffee houses, progress reports, school events, and more. Creating this calendar was fun for me because it got me so excited about what 2020 beholds and what the future might bring.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences: In this new calendar, I included deadlines for Julie and I’s CAS project and the possible due date of our May clinic, therefore, I’ve been showing commitment and perseverance into it.
  • Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth: In this experience, I noticed that my strength is definitely organization and overall just having a clear idea of what’s coming and what are my deadlines are. In addition, I also saw that an area for growth that I need to develop is on being surer of myself. While making the calendar I would doubt myself if I should decorate it how I wanted to, rather than just doing it.

IB Learner Profile:

  • Reflective: This experience exalted the IB learner profile of being reflective. I was reflecting on how I’m getting close to 12th grade, and Bachi/Faro, graduating, etc; therefore, it’s important for me to keep myself up to date on deadlines, events, and more which this calendar would help me with.
  • Thinkers: This experience definitely put me into a thinking state because I needed to figure out when some people’s birthdays were because asking them just seemed rude to do.
