Update: Winter Break Entry #3
Winter Break Entry #3
CAS: Regarding Activity
One of my favourite things to do is play soccer. Therefore, soccer was definitely the most active thing I did this winter break. During this winter break, I’ve been constantly practicing tricks and kicks at my house. I’ve been watching these Tik Toks and YouTube videos on people doing tricks and they have inspired me to learn them. Even though I haven’t gotten the trick yet, I know that patience and perseverance can help me do it and maybe even implement it into the soccer field.
In addition, this vacation I played soccer twice with my friends at the beach. The first time was with my friend group and it’s something we usually do at the beach that everyone enjoys and that makes us hot enough to go swim later. The second time was at Nicolle’s birthday where half of the soccer team was there and a few other friends, and we played against these other people at the beach, and it was very fun. Since it was in mixed groups, it was very hard playing against a few of my soccer teammates that are good in the soccer field. In the end, my team won like 4-2, and I scored a goal.
Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: One of the challenges I had to undertake in this experience was playing against my team captain, Melanie because she’s really good. But a new skill I developed in the process is that I now understand the way she attacks, she fools the opponent, therefore, I was able to think one step ahead of her and stop her before she could potentially fool me.
- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance: In the world, some people don’t have the ability or the chance to do what they love in such a beautiful place. For me to be able to connect two things I love (soccer and the beach) is something that everyone should be able to do. Everyone should be given the chance of choosing what they want, and being in a safe environment. I am grateful to live in a country where I, in this case, can go to the beach, play soccer with my friends, and the only thing I have to worry about is mosquito bites.
IB Learner Profile:
- Open-minded: In this experience, I feel like I was very open-minded because we played soccer against these other teenagers at the beach, and instead of judging each other quickly we decided to put our differences aside and engage in something we had in common, which was soccer.
- Balanced: In this experience, I was balanced because even if I’m on vacation and should relax I feel like a crucial part of doing a sport is discipline, therefore, practicing even when you’re not technically supposed to is good.
