I do not have a sit spot to go outside and observe the world around me, but I think that if I was like Rachel Carson and I went outside to observe nature on a regular basis and suddenly noticed that something was different (like if the sound of frogs disappeared), I think I would want to figure out why that happened and fix it, just like she did. I really admire Rachel Carson for writing her book ‘Silent Spring’ because she was able to spark change by forcing people to see how they were destroying the environment around them and in the documentary she even told them that there were other ways to prevent mosquitos from spreading malaria. Since the mosquitos became resistant to DDT anyways, continuing the use of DDT wouldn’t have accomplished anything, so I think she played a big part in scientists researching and discovering that fungal diseases can kill the mosquitos that spread malaria and other deadly diseases. Personally, I don’t think I have a strong voice to make the changes that I want to see in the world because I’m so young, but I think that is slowly changing as more people begin to see that younger people know more than most people think. I’m very happy to see that older generations are starting to listen to younger people, especially because we have to live in the world that they’ve shaped up until now.

I totally agree Sofia, it is inspiring to see more adults listen to young people. I think the next generation is starting out with so much wisdom and knowledge (way to describe the science of this story!) and the SPARK to create the change. I would encourage you to find a sit spot, it can be as simple as right outside your door!
