"Did they publish this anywhere? I looked at the Youtube site and didn't see them. But I did see your contemporary dance video Shifting Tides. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O_1q5M0vMk Excellent work!"
"While there were many moments during our Salt Lake City field trip that were informative, interesting, and profound, one experience stood out as the most memorable—and the most unexpected. Looking back, it was not just an adventure but also a powerful lesson in teamwork, resilience, and adaptability.
To showcase the stunning natural beauty of Utah and the Salt Lake City area, we planned a rafting trip for Saturday. The day started out perfectly—warm sunshine, gentle currents, and breathtaking mountain scenery. Dressed in swimsuits, we floated down the river, soaking in the peacefulness of the landscape.
Then, without warning, we rounded a bend and found ourselves in the middle of a sudden squall. The wind roared against us, pushing our boats backward as rain and hail pelted down—yes, hail, in August! We had no choice but to scramble to shore for safety.
In the chaos, as we huddled together, as you can hear on the video, Gigi had the great idea to use the boat as a shield against the elements. But just as we started to feel a bit more secure, we saw our other boat lift off—literally flying in the wind! Without hesitation, Owen and I sprinted after it while Matt, Cassia, and Amy stayed back with the rest of the group.
We finally caught the runaway boat after an all out sprint. We spotted a small zip line business with an enclosed store. After confirming that we could stay there, we hurried back to gather the rest of the group. Cold and shaken, we warmed up inside while waiting for Owen’s dad to pick us up.
During the ordeal, fear and discomfort were inevitable. Some of us were soaked and shivering, others felt unprepared for the unexpected turn of events. But what stood out was how everyone stepped up to support one another. Matt stayed outside with the boat, keeping watch as others navigated the storm. Owen took the lead in securing a safe place for us to wait, building a connection that ultimately benefited the whole group. The young women stuck together, reassuring one another and maintaining a sense of unity.
By the end of the day, despite our exhaustion, I couldn’t have been prouder. What started as a challenge turned into a bonding experience. We had faced adversity together, adapted, and come out stronger. After a bit of rest, we were ready to continue our journey, carrying with us a newfound confidence in our ability to handle the unexpected."
"It is so fun to hear how an experience impacted the participant months after that experience because at the time it is hard to understand what is going to change down the line. The week was educational and also created change on a deeper level for all participants, myself included."
"This was the second reel we shared. This time with more context & information in the reel itself and less in the caption:
Mac’s experience 🎀 of our first official Project Wonder retreat!"
"I love choir! So, explain to me the difference between the theatre production people and the choir people. Was your theatre production a musical? And are there crossovers between the two groups? Do you have any videos of the choir that you can post?
I love that you are secretary - do you have regular meetings where you need to keep the minutes? And if you do have meetings, what do you talk about?"
"I have been in choir for 2 years and it is one of my favorite classes. One of my main interests is in music especially singing so it makes sense but my favorite part about it is the people. I feel like it's a really good group and most of my close friends are in choir and I feel like I get along with everyone. I also am the choir secretary. I don't do much in the position I mostly just help people with their music and things like that. I am planning to do choir next year again and it might be interesting to explore what else I might be able to do in choir."
"It is great that you tried out for the play! I am glad that you found some nice kids that were involved and made some new friends. Unfortunately, it is sometimes hard for people to change - and changing their status quo - friend groups is uncomfortable. Keep trying these new experiences. I love hearing your perspective."
"I joined the theatre program this year to try out something new and I thought it was fun there were definitely some people I didn't get along with but I also met a lot of nice people too. I think the theatre program at my school could get better at being more open to new people because I felt there were a lot of cliques even when I had friends who were already in theatre. I think it was because I wasn't really a "theatre kid" as I am not in any drama classes so I think they thought of me as an outsider but if we could get more kids who aren't necessarily traditional drama kids I think it could really boost the program."
"This is one of my first communities I was a part of and have known for a very long time. It's a group of my mom's friends and their kids we don't see each other very often but very consistently. This a a picture from our annual camping trip we go on with them to Capitol Reef National Park which is the only place I like to camp."
"This event was another one of our fundraisers for Lab26. But more than that it allowed us to showcase who we are as artists and what we are capable of as artists to our school and dance community."
"I love the advice to just start. Starting is probably the most important thing - things vary from there and the path is never straight forward. It sometimes shocks me when I look back at things that I started with one plan and then the way that they turn out after. Excited to see where your journey goes."
"Walkin' you through a few new features on Wonderment Profile pages."
"Here's a little walkthrough and a few tips and tricks for our new project pages. Questions? Suggestions? Post in the comments below!"
"When I was in college, my photography professor—and all my other art professors—had a habit of strongly encouraging us to attend campus art events. Whether it was an exhibit, a speaker, or a workshop, there was always a portion of our final grade tied to these experiences.
One of those events introduced me to an inspirational speaker and former National Geographic photographer, Steve Uzzell. His presentation focused on preparation, inspiration, and unexpected discoveries. His key idea was that "just as a well-planned road trip allows for unexpected discoveries, a well-prepared mind is open to creative solutions." He emphasized that this applies to everything in life.
When he first landed his job at National Geographic, it wasn’t exactly what he had envisioned for himself. But that unexpected turn led him to discover an entirely new side of his creativity. I asked him about the preparation aspect—how do you know when you're truly ready? His response stuck with me: you never really know. You just do your best, but you can't wait until you feel fully prepared, because that moment will never come. The key is to start, and you’ll discover things along the way.
I really connected with this because I tend to postpone things when I don’t feel the timing is right. I also struggle with a low tolerance for frustration, which makes me resistant to the unexpected. If things don’t go exactly as planned, I often feel like they’ve failed. But I’m trying to hold onto Uzzell’s message as I move forward with this project.
A few weeks ago, I met with Miss Amy and Cloe to discuss our ideas. The problem isn’t that I lack direction—it’s that I don’t know how to put it into words or turn it into reality. My vision feels so broad, and while I know where I’d ideally like to end up, I struggle to break it down into small, actionable steps.
But, as Uzzell’s presentation was titled, "Open Roads, Open Minds." So, I’ve decided to just start somewhere. I already have an accountability group to keep me grounded and that is my preparation and my open road, and now, it’s about being open to all the possibilities ahead."
"Yay!!! Seems like you have already found a way to start! It is okay if things are not clear at the moment but you sure will get some more clarity as we progress!"
"Hey, Lab 26 team! First of all, I apologize for spamming your project page with garbage comments (now deleted, but you'll still see all the weird notifications.) There seems to be some sort of bug in the commenting function on these updates, but I can't find the bug for all my spamming. We'll keep watching out for that.
But secondly, and more importantly, I'm very excited to see how this project is developing alongside your existing program there, and the IG page is great!

"This sounds so exciting! You are moving forward. Followed the IG page - looks awesome! Can't wait to see what happens. The little steps definitely have a huge impact."
"I think that you are on to something. Having a clear understanding of the budget will help develop the fundraising that you do. :) Can't wait to see the budget. Looking forward to following your instagram and supporting you in different ways."
"Project Wonder empowers students to become confident social entrepreneurs through business education and real-life experiences—driving impact in their communities by forming relationships, taking risks, and embracing lifelong learning."
"I am writing this update as we are slowly taking steps forward in the fundraising and planning of this project. Firstly we have continued to host open classes of all styles, promoting them on instagram so our viewers can get a greater understanding of us as dancers and artists. Our instagram is @_lab26_ if you want to follow along with our journey there as well. Secondly we have initiated the process of researching where we want our location for the intensive to be. Some ideas have been, Italy, Portugal, Berlin, Valencia, etc. This is an essential step in the process for understanding our budget and outreach for this project! There have been a few obstacles in the project moving forward as we try to search for what are the best next steps in such a grand project. But hopefully finding a location will give us all excitement and motivation to keep moving forward with the fundraising aspect."
"I will remember the recommendation for a new Netflix show! I will see if I can connect the show to the idea.
Excited to see where this goes. Next time a photo from you? And can you learn photography on the internet like most other things?"
"Today I sent an email to the amazing women who could be an integral part of this journey. It asks them to meet with me next Sunday to discuss next steps in the process.
I have to say that the act of writing and sending the email was excruciating. It is hard to put yourself out there, be vulnerable and try something new. It is not comfortable and it definitely might not work, however, I am willing to try. At least that is what I told myself today. And I also had the push from one of the young ladies and Adelma, my business coach. That is probably why I sent it. It is so much better to have a community that you are accountable to in this world. And I am grateful for that.
When I received my push from Mileidy, I had just finished a long day at my other job. I was tired but satisfied with the work that was done today and I forgot that I said I was going to do this today. But this community, this structure is going to be a great help in the upcoming weeks before we go to Guatemala.
I also thought of an idea for what to write about here on this project. It is going to be about stories of my students that succeeded in learning so much in my classes. I am really excited about the opportunity to reconnect with them or just to remember their amazing work throughout the years.
I am feeling proud of myself and still a little scared. But ready to start the week and see where it leads us."
"“No tiene ni pies ni cabeza” is a very particular phrase my mom used to say when something did not make sense. If you put it into Google, it will describe it as something “absurd, confusing, or lacking sense.” Well, that is sort of the struggle at the moment. I have an idea of what I would like to do, and I guess it sort of connects with what my younger self would have liked to do with her life. Her dream was to study and get a very high-paying job that would allow her to be wealthy enough so that when she was old, she could spend her money and time doing what she really wanted: photography, traveling, and writing about all the cultures and stories she encountered.
Well, I guess my idea is to do exactly that, just that, if possible, I would skip over the “getting a high-paying job and waiting until retirement” part. I have always liked photography, but not exactly commercial photography. First, I do not like to make people pose, and second, I never tried to learn. There is something about it that I dislike. It does not feel real. So I was always more fond of photographing animals, elders, and kids because I felt that with them as subjects, there was so much to tell. Through the portrait of an elder or a kid—no pose, no action, just their face and just looking into their eyes—there is so much you can get. So many stories to be told.
Last year, I started a travel blog, and although my initial idea was to tell the stories about my trips, I fell into the same pile as every other travel blogger—offering recommendations on what to do, where to eat, etc. And that is not what I wanted. I want to immerse myself in the different cultures of the places I visit and get to know the locals. Get to know their stories, and then be able to put them out there so more people can learn about them. I do not wish to only get to know the pretty and the popular; I want to know all sides and all the struggles. I guess if I think about it, what I want to do is a sort of journalism, but I do not like to give it that name, as the term is so broad and not exactly associated with what I would like to do.
The name Tales Across Borders is a provisional name, inspired by my very favorite Netflix show called “Tales by Light,” because although I can’t explain very well what it is that I want to do, the show does it perfectly."
